Meridian Stress Assessment
Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA) uses electrical conductance measurements taken at sensitive acupuncture points of the hands and feet. These conductance measurements appear to correlate very nicely with qi (pronounced "chee") or bioenergy. The qi feeds body systems with energy which acts as an organizing principle on the physical body. As the Chinese organ or system represented by the point becomes stressed or ill, changes are measured at the related acupuncture point.
The MSA is a remarkable tool that helps the physician balance the body and select individualized treatment protocols. The MSA can be used for identification of food intolerances, allergy desensitization, nutrient deficiencies, selection and dosages of homeopathic remedies, herbal prescriptions and flower essences and hormone balancing.
The Meridian Stress Assessment is a non-invasive health evaluation that measures electrical conductance at specific acupuncture points. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, groups of acupuncture points are related to each other along organ meridians. The health and function of the organs is communicated in the way in which the energy flows along the meridian. The energy (stress response) of specific meridian points located on the hands and feet will change depending on the health of the organ they represent. There are points specifically for allergies, lymph and circulation for example and each specific organ and body system. As an organ or body system moves away from health, the increased stress on the associated meridian will be measured by the MSA equipment as increased stress on the acupuncture point. As the organ moves back toward health, the point becomes less stressed (has better energy flow), which can also be demonstrated in the MSA scan.
The MSA computer includes a digitized library of 40,000 items that are used to improve health: allergens, heavy metals, vitamins, herbs, homeopathic remedies, drugs, microorganisms, chemicals and food. This information interacts with the body using a non-harmful infrared carrier wave. In less than one minute an item can usually be found which will balance a specific acupoint.
In practice, balancing items can promote health while items that do not balance can be stressful to the body. The MSA can measure the potential effect of a medicine before it is administered to the patient--a doctor's dream! MSA testing combined with a thorough history, physical and lab exams can be a remarkable tool that helps the physician balance the body and individualize treatment protocols.
The MSA is registered by the FDA for stress testing. Research in Europe and the US has shown MSA allergy testing is as accurate as RAST blood testing. Additional research in Europe has shown a correlation between the meridian points and organ health and function. While the MSA system cannot diagnose disease, it can provide the physician with valuable information about the overall health of an individual and find supplements with which to balance the patient without stressing the patients, if necessary.
