The practice of Naturopathic Medicine is not new.  Its foundations are rooted in rich global traditions many centuries old and are widely practiced in Europe and the United Kingdom.  With the renewal in good nutrition, physical fitness, the role of stress and the mind/body connection, there has been a recent resurgence in the appreciation of the naturopathic sciences in the United States.

The public has become aware of the effectiveness and relative absence of side effects experienced with the use of natural therapies.  Modern scientific studies also support this renaissance.  Naturopathic Medicine, eclipsed for some time by the introduction of “wonder” drugs and advances in hospital technology, has now become a viable—and often preferred—option for the health care consumer.

Wellness of the patient is the goal of the naturopathic physician.  Individualized treatment is prescribed after careful analysis of the patient’s history, including nutrition, stress, environment and psychological factors.  Physical examinations and laboratory tests are performed not only to diagnose illness but also to determine the health of the organ systems.

Naturopathic physicians are the only primary care doctors clinically trained in a variety of natural therapies: nutrition, homeopathy, acupuncture, physical therapy, hydrotherapy, exercise, counseling and botanical medicine.  They combine and tailor these therapies to the needs of the individual.  Because the naturopathic physician values all branches of medical science, he readily refers patients to other physicians for diagnostic testing or treatment when appropriate.  The scope of practice includes all aspects of family care, from natural childbirth through geriatrics.

Dr. Schweitzer educates, informs and involves his patients in the process of getting well; he guides and supports them in the implementation of prescribed diagnoses.  Patients are encouraged to become active participants in the decision-making process so they may gain control of their own health.

Dr. Schweitzer has been serving the population of Fairfield County, Connecticut, including Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, Greenwich and Danbury, for 17 years.  He also has patients from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Switzerland and Germany.

Dr. Schweitzer welcomes inquiries.
