Biocellular Analysis
Biocellular analysis measures terrain or internal environment within which enzymes operate. These enzymes mediate our biochemistry. When there are imbalances in the terrain, enzymes work less well or can even cease functioning. These enzymes mediate our biochemistry. When there are imbalances in the terrain, enzymes work less well or can even cease functioning. Imbalances can even be seen by microscopic evaluation of the blood.
The Biocellular analyzer consists partially of research grade electrodes that take precise measurements that define this internal environment. This equipment is being used under the auspices of an Institutional Review Board that makes its use acceptable to the FDA. The eqiupment is calibrated with soultions that comply with national standards. Therefore, we at the Wellness Institute are not only alerted to imbalances which affect our patient’s health status but can also contribute to furthering scientific knowledge regarding the clinical significance of these measurements of “deep” biochemistry.
The BCA electrodes precisely measure the pH, redox potential and Resistivity of blood, saliva and urine; these fluids provide a whole body perspective by furnishing information on three different body compartments.
pH—The acid/base balance of the body must be maintained within a narrow range or enzymes cannot function effectively. Poor enzyme function affects every bodily function including digestion, detoxification and oxygenation of body tissues. An acid body pH will deplete the body of minerals which are used to neutralize and excrete the acid. When pH is not balanced, the body depletes minerals from bone to compensate for the depletion of buggers in the blood, hence bone density goes down. And for every 1/10 of a pH unit one requires twice as many hormones to achieve the same effect. All hormones are pH sensitive.
Redox potential—The oxidation/reduction potential measures the number of electrons available for the body to use. We obtain these electrons from the food we eat. This measurement reflects body function in 2 ways: energy and antioxidant status. Free radical damage causes a biological rusting. This makes one age faster and causes cells to die at a faster rate and can contribute atherosclerotic plaques, wrinkles, age spots and to the genesis of cancers, particularly when coupled with excess acidity and hypoxia (low oxygen levels) in the body.
Resistivity—This measures the concentration of minerals in the body. Minerals are vital; they are used to maintain the correct charge across cell membranes and are essential cofactors for enzymes. Enzymes are the mediators of all metabolism or work that is performed in the body, whether it be digestion, muscle contraction, nerve firing... Conductivity tells us about hydration and toxicity as well as global mineral status.
The BCA does not diagnose specific diseases; it helps the physician to assess your body’s milieu. Gardeners know that a healthy soil is necessary for healthy plants. Naturopathic physicians have known for years that a healthy soil, or milieu, makes for a healthy body. Periodic assessment of the terrain tells us whether real improvement is taking place.
